Founder and trainer

Carina van Wyk

After more than two decades working with information in some shape or form, Carina helps internet users identify disinformation, misinformation and scams, keep their personal information private, and stay safe online. In her previous role as head of education and training at fact-checking organisation Africa Check, she trained thousands of people across Africa – from journalists and business professionals to students, teachers and lecturers – in fact-checking and digital literacy, enabling them to identify and debunk dis- and misinformation, including scams, online. This experience, combined with years spent in newsrooms as journalist and sub-editor, laid the foundation for the work she currently does at NetSavvy. She hold a master's degree in journalism and media studies from Wits University, as part of which she completed a research project on the impact of independent fact-checking on journalism practice in South Africa.

He has 14 years’ experience in the field of information and communications technology. As the world moved from print to digital, he became more and more interested in how information spreads online and how internet users can keep their information private, safe and secure. He has been sharing online safety and security tips with his friends and family for years and now wishes to do the same for all internet users – in an interesting and easily understandable way.
